DepEd partners with ACPI to train teachers
The Department of Education (DepEd) Technical-Vocational Education (TVE) Task Force partnered with the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) to train around 100 technical-vocational high school teachers from different parts of the country in the fields of animation, and visual arts and graphics design.
DepEd has always believed in continually providing the students with relevant skills in order to make them self-reliant and productive citizens of the country. One way of achieving its objectives is to strengthen the technical-vocational high schools of the country with the ultimate goal of providing high school students with lifelong, relevant and certifiable skills that will give them greater opportunities in higher learning, in the world of work and/or in entrepreneurship.
On the other hand, one of ACPI's primary functions is to provide various training programs across the country through the support of its member companies, private and public educational institutions, and various government agencies. ACPI offers different training programs that range from advanced trainer's training to grassroots introductory workshops for children.
In support to the present thrust of DepEd through its ICT4E Program, DepEd has tapped the assistance and expertise of ACPI as its training provider and partner in enhancing the skills of the technical-vocational high school teachers in the fields of animation, and visual arts and graphics design.
DepEd then conducted an a one-week introductory training in animation from June 1-6, and an intensive two-week training program in visual arts and graphics design from June 1-12 that was held at the Kapitolyo High School in Pasig City:
The four-year high school TechVoc Animation, and Visual Arts and Graphics Design curriculum is developed and headed by Grace Dimaranan, ACPI board director and manager of Top Peg Studio, together with three more animation industry experts, namely, Eric Tansingco, manager of Take One Animation Studio; Ednalie Vitug, a professional background & graphics artist; and Nelson Udaundo, a veteran 2D/ Flash animator and digital artist.
Trainers for animation included Tito Romero, William Sy, Uldarico Bolanos, and Edwin Devera; while the trainers for visual arts and graphics design included Marc Mondonedo, Roimee Salandanan, Ann Capistrano, and Nelson Udaundo.
